MALAYSIAN POLITICS : APRIL 2009

The new Cabinet line up has started their operations. All I can say is they are focussing on the younger generation now. It’s a good strategy and should have been realised long time ago.

I still remembered reading the Prime Minister’s statement in a newspaper after BN lost to Pakatan Rakyat in their wrest to secure Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau seats. He said that the approach used by BN was old, and outdated. BN needed new approach to tackle the people and regain their trust. However he did not disclosed the new approach that would be used by the ruling party in their mission to get people’s support.

Now, from what I see, and as I understands it, Malaysians are unpredictable.

They know they need a strong government to lead them, to give them better lives, but they refused to support them. When something goes wrong, the blame would always be on the ruling government. That’s how they make the conclusion that the government or BN, is wrong and unefficient. (Well, there are more nasty words that they used, but these two words is enough to sum-up the whole thing, I guess..)

All they know is that the government must help them, provide education to their children with free textbooks, no school fees, give them bonusses every year, or to make long story short — give them the best thing for the cheapest prices. Exora, for instant. The latest MPV was launched by the Prime Minister on April 15, 2009. For me, the price is reasonable enough. But, there are still voices who claimed that the price was too high and started to make up the worse stories about the project. Okay, nobody force you to buy the MPV. Just go buy whatever you want. The weird thing is, when some people hated toyota or nissan, they never bad-mouthed the brand or expressed their dissatisfaction to the whole world via internet. But, when it comes to Proton or other local brands, they will work to mar the good name of the brand like they were paid for it. It’s like shooting a flying bird. They will keep trying until the bird really got shot and die.

What will happen then? Is the opposition will open a new factory where more than 10,000 people can work and feed their families, give them hope for better future and make Malaysia known for a brand internationally?

Oh yes, they did have a brand well-known internationally, Anwar Ibrahim. Known for his controversies, conspiracy and causing chaos in his own country. He put no stop to it, and still continue his efforts at this very moment. I say he did succeed in causing stir in this country. And got the people confused about his genuine political purpose. But still, people believe in his words.

How he implement his strategy in taking over the country?
– He asked his wife to give him her seat which was given by the people to his wife. (I wonder what the Permatang Pauh voters really thinking?)
– He encourage former Perak MB to mess with the Royalties
– He encourage his supporters to take it to the street in expressing their dissatisfaction (so Malaysia is becoming Indonesia and Thailand and people are living in fear)
– He uses issues to divert people’s attention on other bigger issues – eg. Eli Wong nude pictures to divert people’s attention on Pakatan Rakyat’s treachery against the Sultan
– And he lets all his puppets to do the work – DAP, PAS and his subordinates in PKR – he is invisible!

That’s why people don’t see him doing the dirty works. He is just being the mastermind. Clever, huh?

But what this brand will do if he is ruling the country? They said they will give free water, incentives for children who excel in their studies, lower the oil prices, give bonusses, longer maternity leave, etc. Sounds good? Yes, indeed they are.

But what happen now?

They have consented to have a nude assemblywoman on board to promote tourism (clíche), they force the people to use limited amount of water or they will raise the water tariff, no incentive have been distributed (yet), they let workers being retrenched without even trying to stabilise the economy in their states etc. And they leave it to the ruling government to settle the problem they raised. And who will be marked as the bad guy? The ruling government, yes.

And for the Prime Minister wannabe, he could not even decide on one name to replace the Pulau Pinang Deputy Chief Minister I, who resign on April 16 after he was alleged of involving in corruption.

That what was also happen in Bukit Lanjan. When there is controversy or problems arise, they just quit! As easy as ABC. They think they are working in a company where they can make money as long as nobody talked about them. But when someone talks, they just could not bear the pressure, and they quit! Just like that!

Well, where actually they put the people then? Just to ensure their victory in elections? So, all of the promises they made during the campaign were just empty promises? And yet, people fall for it? I could not believe it!

This shows how easy it will be for Malaysians to sell Malaysia to other hands! Wow!

Well Malaysians, do you really know who are you voting for?

UMNO – THE NEW TRANSFORMATION

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has just ended his inaugural speech as the new Umno President at Dewan Merdeka, PWTC.

And as a Malaysian, I say he is totally right. His speech was so straight-forward, and engaged all issues regarding Umno, and full with courage, daring and bravery when he advised all level in Umno, including former top leaders to be wise in everything that they do.

He wanted Umno members to change themselves, there is no ME, it should be THE PARTY, he said. It is not my dignity, it is the party’s dignity.

And the most touching moments, for me, was when, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad went down from his seat at the upper level of the Dewan, to congratulate Najib and other new line-ups of the party at the centre of the main stage.

Tun M, who seems to have positively accepted Najib’s constructive criticisms, shook hands with Najib, and few others, before he went straight to Paklah and hugged him.

This scene has certainly made me cry as I really felt that bond between the two statesmen – that has indirectly be the main issue towards the end of Najib’s speech.

And seeing Tun M, Paklah and Najib raising their hands together, for me, it symbolises the strength of the Malays and Umno – which no one ever realised its existence before.

How lucky Malaysia is to have 3 prime ministers – 2 formers and one is the current, of course – who are still alive and have own perspectives to bring the country and its people forward and developed.

Paklah has stated that he would remain loyal to Umno, while Tun M has said on Saturday that he will rejoin Umno at a date to be announced later.

Just imagine what kind of power Umno has now, and what can they do for the people – provided they are really changed – and the country. Now, Umno has the Voice, the Strength and the Strategist – which when combined, they can easily bested the opposition coalition, even foreign enemies.

Only one left thing to do for Umno.

Make the transformation a reality.

No more talks. It is time to take action and it begins with oneself.

My two cents. Take it or leave it.

SPECIAL ON KARPAL

and his drama continues…

The DAP Chairman is seriously considering to get a bodyguard.

He said “This is the first time such thing has happened in Parliament. Nobody has ever intimidated a Member of Parliament.”

Really?

I give one occasion. Datuk Ibrahim Ali’s (Independent-Pasir Mas) was being mobbed in Parliament’s lobby by about 30 disabled people who took exception to his remarks against wheelchair-bound Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) for not standing up when raising a point of order.

And who was it that agitated them on the matter and brought them to the Parliament to intimidate the MP?

And Karpal said “There must be strict vetting and whoever brings guests should just stay in the public gallery and be guided out.”

Somehow, those who brought them did not asked them to stay in the public gallery. Why?

And what about N. Gobalakrishnan (PKR-Padang Serai) who brought Hindraf leader, P Waythamoorthy’s six-year-old daughter to Parliament’s lobby to celebrate her birthday? Is that okay?

When all those things happened to him, suddenly everyone must take action to protect him. For what and from what?

They were the one started the tradition to bring outsiders into the House, now why complaining? And to be more definite, the group confronted him does not even entered the House. Duh…

And Anwar continues playing chess..

TOLD YOU, THE BEST DRAMA IS YET TO COME… Karpal

CONFUSED KARPAL

Karpal Singh. A name that is becoming popular among younger generation today. He is 69, a politician and a lawyer in profession, an ethnic Punjabi and also a long-time critic of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former Malaysian Prime Minister. He is married to Gurmit Kaur, 61. He had involved in an accident on January 28, 2005 while he was in a taxi, in front of his house, which had caused damages on his nerves and tissues in the spine. The accident has led him to be a wheelchair bound politician.

Despite his physical disability, he remains tough. And lately he’s back on the headlines. But this time, he has put himself in a very vulnarable position. Why? Because of the inconsistencies he had in his thoughts.

Cutting the story short, I will only focus on the latest incidents.

First, he said he would filed a legal suit against the Sultan of Perak for acting ultra vires to the provisions of Article 16(6) of the Constitution of Perak. He also said that the Sultan has no jurisdiction when it comes to the state’s administration. Owh? Meanwhile, Karpal said he loves to read law journals during his free time instead of playing golf. I guess he had studied the Perak Constitution after publicly making the insulting remarks against the Sultan. And as everyone knows, he had aborted his plan to take the Sultan to the court. Oh, already malu is it? Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak is formerly Lord President of Malaysia’s Supreme Court. Then, what makes Karpal thinks that the Sultan did not know what he was doing? It is (former) Lord President vs. Lawyer. You know who’s who.

Many in the Islamic party (PAS) also find it hard to back Karpal Singh, as they still remember his famous line years ago in which he said “over my dead body an Islamic state will be formed.” And the opposition coalition is all about……?????

An attempt to grab attention? Among others, absolutely.

Second, he criticised PKR chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his DAP boss Lim Kit Siang and even Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for what he deemed as their “inconsistent stand” on party hopping. Karpal claimed that their stance had caused the whole Pakatan Rakyat to be in disarray. He even threatened to leave the Pakatan Rakyat if the opposition coalition does not condone dishonesty of any kind, in particular treachery to the people through crossovers. And yet, DAP is still there.

Third, Karpal accused Anwar of being unfit to lead Pakatan Rakyat and demanded that the PKR supremo step down. He also called on Anwar to repent, saying the former Malaysian deputy prime minister had created enough trouble for the country. Hm.. Isn’t this is the same man that he had defended in court for the sodomy charges in 1999? On February 8, 2009, Karpal said “In fact I think Pakatan Rakyat requires another leader, a good leader. Not someone who believes in immorality, even accepting crossovers.” Does he meant that accepting crossovers was just one of the immoralities? So, what were the others? Think.

And yesterday, he simply said he did not have any misunderstanding with Anwar and he accepted Anwar as a leader of Pakatan Rakyat. When the backbenchers called him to clarify on his previous call on Anwar to step down, he simply said it was none of their business. Wow, and what’s he’s doing interfering with Barisan Nasional businesses all this while? Since Tun M’s era?

Fourth, cursing in the Dewan Rakyat. That happened yesterday. He said that he had received two bullets and that they (whoever they were) have demonstrated near his law firm and house. Using legal acts, he then simply cursed in the Dewan Rakyat, saying celaka (damn) and simply accusing Pemuda Umno to be the mastermind behind all the incidents.

And quoting Hindi movie title, Singh is Kinng, he had really outraged the backbenchers. And to add to his rudeness, he ignored Deputy Speaker’s instructions to stop using such remarks. Only after many repeat instructions, Karpal retract his remarks. But still blaming Pemuda Umno.

And today, he was confronted by a group of 22 men claiming to be Selangor Umno Youth members just outside the Parliament tower block. And as for now, he has less than 24 hours to produce proof of his accusation against Pemuda Umno in the Dewan yesterday. And you know what, if he fails to provide any proof, Malaysians can regard him as a cheat who has lost all credibility and sanity. That is so true, looking at all the wild statements he had made recently.

Unfortunately, thanks to his big mouth, there are more. I just could not fit it all in. He seems to have so many questions about everything. Aiyak! Sudah, sudahla tu…

RIHANNA-CHRIS : A Malaysian point of view

rihanna-chris

It is confirmed that Chris Brown, the boyfriend, has beat up Rihanna in their limo, after the pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis. Rihanna was reported to have bruises, split lip, bloody nose, bite marks on her body and scratches on her face. The 20-year-old R&B singer was taken to hospital with contusions and facial swelling.

Following the incident, Rihanna had cancelled her performance at the Grammy Awards.

But not just the Grammy’s. Rihanna also cancelled her plan to come down to Malaysia this February 13th for a concert. All Malaysian fans have mixed feelings – angry for the concert and at Chris, sad for the incident to happen now, sympathy for Rihanna for having a hard time with her boyfriend.

Some sources said that Rihanna had gave Chris Brown herpes or STD. Well, even if it is true, it doesn’t excuse Brown to beat Rihanna, given under any circumstances.

For me, I say, “Leave him, Rihanna. You are way too precious to be wasted like that.” Really, no woman deserve to be beaten up like that. It is time to walk away.

Now, however, there is one good thing behind all these. And it all related to the current issues.

Despite Rihanna’s eager and enthusiastic fans, we can look at the concert’s postponement – the terms which the organiser used to avoid panic and it works, for now, the new date or any decision on that will be announce in two weeks – from a different perspective.

The current political situation in Malaysia, I would say, quite unstable. With two upcoming by-elections and the recent and still ongoing Perak issues, there are just too much to be taken at one time. Stories, true or merely being made-up, spills out like pouring rains, and they kept on finding more issues to be brought up, in order to bring the other side down.

Maybe not many of us know, that, Rihanna’s concert was among that issues. PAS, already stated their stand when they called to ban the concert by claiming that Rihanna’s stage costumes and dance routines are “too sexy”. They also said that attending the Rihanna’s concert was a form of support for Israel. We all know how Malaysian feel about Israel after their violence over Palestinian in Gaza. And PAS said that inviting the star was “akin to insulting eastern culture”.

Despite the organiser’s explanation that Rihanna had already agreed to shun skimpy clothes, do you think the opposition coalition would not use it as one of the issue, to get people’s attention and their votes? This issue, might just work, especially among villagers, who are usually more conservative. And yes, these are the target group for the two upcoming by-elections. I don’t think Malaysians that have bought the ticket to the concert, are those who will vote in the by-elections. But those who will vote, definitely will take this matter close to their heart, as they are all Malaysians.

So, every step should be taken carefully. It is all about strategy now. And for a Good Girl Gone Bad, isn’t bad at all.

Yes, I know, the concert will still be held. But let’s just hope it will not happen at the same time with the by-elections. However, if it’s happen, let’s hope what I’m saying here won’t come true.

PERAK : ARTICLES USED BY THE SULTAN

ARTICLES USED BY THE SULTAN OF PERAK

Article XVI (6) of the Perak Darul Ridzuan State Constitution :

“If the Mentri Besar ceases to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the Legislative Assembly, then, unless at his request His Royal Highness dissolves the Legislative Assembly, he shall tender the resignation of the Executive Council”.

– we can break the article into 3 parts :
i) If the Mentri Besar ceases to command the confidence of the majority of DUN members – please note that there is no mention on how or the exact proceeding to be mandatorily used in determining the matter.

ii) MB shall (“hendaklah”) tender resignations of all exco members including himself as the Chief exco – “shall” here means it is mandatory to be done with no exception.

iii) The middle part of the article – unless at his request His Royal Highness dissolves the Legislative Assembly – means there is provision or exception, but, with conditions in this article, that allows the MB to request for a dissolution of the Legislative Assembly when he ceases to command the confidence of the majority, but, with the Sultan’s consent. There is no further allocation that said the Sultan is obligated to accept the MB’s request.

Article XVIII (2)(b) of the Perak Darul Ridzuan State Constitution :
The power to determine and act based on own discretion and evaluation

The Sultan of Perak used this article to ensure that his action was according to his existing jurisdiction and had used his discretion to not to consent the dissolution of the state assembly.

This was stated and implemented and it showed that the Sultan is not merely a puppet to the state government. And it really showed that the monarchy system still works! God bless Malaysia!

P/S : Man, they are really messing with the wrong Sultan here..

MALAYSIAN POLITICS : PERAK – PAKATAN’S BEST DRAMA.. yet..

LATEST! NIZAR TO SUE THE SULTAN OF PERAK here.

sultan-azlan-shah

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah’s statement here.

I WILL NOT RESIGN!

Everybody knew. The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah has ordered Perak MB and all state excos to resign immediately, after ruling out that the dissolution of the state legislative assembly would not become reality. And Perak MB refused, saying “We will not resign as ordered by the Sultan. We are still the legitimate government. I will go to work as usual tomorrow.’’

Perak MB, Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin’s letter to Sultan here.

And this is what happened today :

10:45am Perak CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said police have secured the state secretariat building following a request by the state secretary to ensure the smooth transfer of power.

10:40am Nizar left the state secretariat building saying that he has been allowed to keep his car until the new mentri besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir is sworn in at 3:30pm.

10:15am Nizar was escorted out of his now emptied room at the state secretariat by Ipoh OCPD Azisman Alias who also stopped Nizar from giving a press conference in the room.

9:50am Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin, ordered by the Perak Sultan to quit as MB, entered the state secretariat building in his state issued new Toyota Camry. He was allowed to pass through the police barricade on the main road leading to the building. He then stepped out of the car to ask the guard at the main gate to let him in. His excos were also allowed in.

Perak MB, before the Sultan’s ruling, had said that “the Sultan will make the final decision and we will accept it”.

After the Sultan’s ruling, which clearly was not produced to be on his side, Nizar just change the course and instead said “the Sultan should have just accepted my advice, the Mentri Besar.” In other words, he means, the Sultan should not think. Should not do anything. Just say yes to me, the Mentri Besar. I am so big. Blah, blah, blah.. Is that it?

And in the press conference yesterday, Anwar, Nizar, Hadi and Kit Siang said “the Sultan should have followed the law. Yes, he is the Sultan, but, he still need to rule by the law”.

Tell me, which part of law did the Sultan of Perak has broken while making his decision on this drama, which initially created by PR?

Our country is a federal constitutional monarchy. So, the Rulers always have the ultimate right to make his own decision based on fair judgements. He is part of the executive power in the country.

Sultan Azlan Shah is one of the most clever and fair Ruler in Malaysia. He is formerly the Lord President of Malaysia’s Supreme Court. I think he has indeed imposed an excellent influence on his prince, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.

He’s fair when he listened to both sides of the story, calling all other assemblymen to confirm the real situation, and validate whether BN really has the majority support. He did not simply jumping to the gun when Nizar informed him about the political turmoil in the state. He took his time to analyse the situation and get all informations and views, and confirm whether Nizar had ceased to command the confidence of the majority of the state assembly members, before ruling out his order.

And his order was produced based on specific laws, which were stated in his statement yesterday. The Bar Council President, who always gone against the norms, also agreed with the Sultan and verified that the Sultan has indeed abided the law while making his decision on this issue.

All of this, only showed that Pakatan Rakyat is a coalition that will NOT uphold the Federal Constitution when they are in power. Nizar passed over the Sultan by announcing the dissolution of the state assembly before getting consent from the Sultan, which he had did for several times in 11 months since he held the Mentri Besar post in Perak. And accusing BN for power grab? Whatever. Ask the three assemblymen. They have confessed in front of the Sultan that they were supporting BN, for the time being, so no need to turn the table upside down now.

And about people’s rights to vote, again, like being written by blogger Jailani Harun, we have to be realistic. Yes, we are democracy. By logic, its the people who have the rights to give the mandate. But, with the current situation, it is not a good idea.

It will mean election. Which will allow more dispute and dark side of the story to spill out. In the end, the people will be confuse and give up and likely to make unexpected decisions. Maybe boycotting the whole system and did not turnout to vote? If this happens, it will create even bigger problem. Election also means more expenditure. With the global economy crisis, it will not, in any way, help the rakyat. The Sultan has foresee and considered all these, and he made the right decision.

And for the party hopping bill, yes, it should be continued. Why? Because it will encourage politicians to be faithful and truthful to their party. The people choose them, mainly because of the party. Sometimes they don’t even know the contestant. But they have faith in the party, and so should their representatives. Honour their faith and you will be honoured by them. That goes to all political parties.

Oh, and BN should not celebrate this simple win. Although they succeeded in taking over Perak, there are people out there who are unhappy with these developments and they will do anything to ensure BN will have no rest in its comfy chair. However, these group of people are important, still, to alert BN and UMNO, especially, of their wrongdoings and to reflect the voice of the people.

This time — listen attentively, take note, take action and stop being greedy. That goes to all those who are in power.
